Open Call for BB 12 Curators Workshop: It Speaks to Me
Open Call for early-career curators, educators, and other art practitioners
Are you an early-career curator, educator or professional art practitioner devoted to contemporary art? Do you want to meet international colleagues and delve into deep discussions with the artistic team of the 12th Berlin Biennale? Then apply now until 31 January 2022 to be part of the BB12 Curators Workshop: It Speaks to Me.
The BB12 Curators Workshop: It Speaks to Me takes language as a departure point to consider where our conversations have gone astray—from one another, our (art) practice, and our lived experiences. Rapid shifts in technology and the increased institutionalization of artistic and curatorial practice have entrapped us in a closed loop that recycles the same language again and again, within new and familiar forms, media, and aesthetics. Workshop curator Reem Shadid invites the participants to consider how curatorial practice can reappropriate language that has been sequestered and used against us.
Applications must be sent by email no later than 31 January 2022. Eight to twelve applicants will be selected for participation by an international jury. Successful applicants will be informed by the beginning of March. BB12 Curators Workshop: It Speaks to Me will take place from 4 to 10 July 2022 in Berlin. More information can be found here.
Selection Committee: Kader Attia (Curator, 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art), Gabriele Horn (Director, Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art), Reem Shadid (BB12 Curators Workshop), Eva Schmitt (Goethe-Institut e. V.), Dr. Ellen Strittmatter (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen ifa), and a representative from Allianz Kulturstiftung.
BB12 Curators Workshop is a collaboration of KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Allianz Kulturstiftung, BMW Group, Goethe-Institut e. V. and ifa.
